Thailand’s Cabinet has approved lower excise duties on E20 gasohol and B20 biodiesel for a three-month period, seeking to encourage motorists to choose the two fuels. The cuts amount to ฿5.60 per litre for E20 and ฿5.50 per litre for B20.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the measure was intended to reduce living costs while supporting agriculture. He said farmers, transport operators and the wider public would benefit.

Anutin said he wanted greater use of the fuels to boost demand for the agricultural products used in their production. Both fuels combine fossil fuel with biofuel.

The Energy Ministry was due to meet to determine pump prices reflecting the lower duties. Those prices had not yet been set.
