LS Eco Energy plans to invest US$49 million in ultra-capacitor production at LS Cable & System Vietnam (LSCV), according to an October 26 regulatory filing. The investment is intended to support rising orders at affiliate LS Materials, with output destined for AI data centres.

The subsidiary expects to begin mass production and deliveries in April 2027 and is targeting annual sales of US$113 million by 2030. LS Eco Energy, part of South Korea’s LS Cable & System, plans to manufacture the devices as an original equipment manufacturer using technology owned by LS Materials.

LSCV was chosen because unused factory space could accommodate production, reducing the initial investment required. The company also cited Vietnam’s low labour and utility costs as reasons for locating the facility there.

Ultra-capacitors rapidly absorb and release electricity, compensating for brief power shortfalls in hydrogen fuel cell generation systems. On October 13, LS Materials signed an approximately US$51.5 million supply agreement with a US hydrogen fuel cell company. It is also discussing further contracts before year-end.

LS Eco Energy already produces cables in Vietnam through LSCV in Ho Chi Minh City and LS-VINA in Haiphong.
