Selangor halts Puncak Alam development pending flood review
Flood victims at evacuation centres will receive up to RM1,500 in aid, while agencies have been told to accelerate mitigation and maintenance work.

Selangor has ordered an immediate suspension of all development in Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor, pending a reassessment of flood-control plans and the Environmental Impact Assessment. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state executive council had made the decision.
In a statement, Amirudin also announced that Jalan Batu Arang in Rawang would close temporarily. The Public Works Department will carry out repairs following a bank collapse.
With rainfall expected nearly every day, he directed agencies to bring forward flood mitigation projects across Selangor, covering both smaller and larger works, particularly in locations facing greater risk. He said working practices needed to respond to the challenges posed by climate change.
The state will increase assistance and deliver it faster to flood victims housed in temporary evacuation centres. State agencies and Yayasan MBI will also accelerate repairs and cleaning at affected homes.
Those staying at the centres will receive up to RM1,500 in assistance from the state government and the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to relieve financial pressure as repairs continue.
Amirudin said drivers would be warned in advance about roads threatened by rising water. The Drainage and Irrigation Department will undertake urgent water-diversion work, while agencies have been instructed to speed up maintenance of rivers and drains.
He acknowledged that flooding had disrupted journeys to work and school collections, and said government agencies should respond openly to public criticism while stepping up efforts to assist residents.
