Indonesia wants to broaden industrial and investment links with Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, with officials identifying manufacturing, automotive production, shipbuilding, petrochemicals and digital technology as areas for cooperation.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto discussed foreign investment, technology transfer and stronger industrial capabilities with Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov in Jakarta. In a statement, Hartarto said Indonesia saw opportunities to develop economic ties through investment and technology.

Shipbuilding is a priority, with Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation expressing interest in working with Indonesian companies to expand vessel production in Indonesia. Hartarto also encouraged Tatarstan businesses to invest in Indonesia’s 25 Special Economic Zones, which had attracted Rp382.1 trillion through September 2026.

The discussions also covered possible cooperation between the Innopolis SEZ in Tatarstan and Nongsa Digital Park in Indonesia. The proposed partnerships would focus on artificial intelligence and developing the digital workforce.

Minnikhanov affirmed Tatarstan’s commitment to stronger commercial relations and invited Indonesia to be guest of honour at the 18th Russia–Islamic World: Kazan Forum in May 2027. The two sides plan to place progress on their joint ventures on the agenda of the 15th Indonesia-Russia Joint Commission Meeting in 2027.
