Tanjung Malim hub records RM7 billion in realised investment
Employment at the automotive hub has grown to 9,300, while the number of companies operating there has reached 35.

Realised investment since 2018 in Tanjung Malim’s Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) totals RM7 billion, or 23.3 per cent of its estimated development value by 2035, according to Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin.
Addressing the Dewan Rakyat, Sim said the RM30 billion estimate for the Perak hub includes Geely investments and combines completed investment, investment under way and future developments. It should not be read as the amount already invested, he said.
Tan Kok Wai (PH-Cheras) had asked which projects had been delivered under Geely’s US$10 billion investment commitment for Tanjung Malim. The partnership between Geely and DRB-HICOM began on June 23, 2017, concentrating first on Proton’s recovery and redevelopment before broadening to AHTV.
Sim put employment at 9,300, compared with about 2,000 in 2018, and said the workforce was projected to reach 22,800 by 2030. AHTV now has 35 companies, up from 11 in 2022, with component suppliers and logistics providers among them.
He also reported increased capacity and upgrades across Proton’s manufacturing operations, covering stamping, painting, assembly, engines and transmissions. A 12-megawatt-peak solar farm developed on the plant’s premises supports manufacturing energy efficiency, he said.
