The two countries are due to sign a cooperation memorandum on November 6, covering staff training, legal development and intellectual property protection.

Timor-Leste is preparing to establish its first Intellectual Property Office through an agreement with South Korea, with a signing ceremony scheduled for November 6, TATOLI reported.
The memorandum of understanding will be signed by Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and South Korea’s Ministry of Intellectual Property. President José Ramos-Horta is due to witness the ceremony during his forthcoming visit to South Korea.
Ramos-Horta met Minister of Commerce and Industry Nino Pereira to discuss arrangements for the agreement. Their discussions centred on preparations for the signing and bilateral cooperation on intellectual property.
According to a statement cited by TATOLI, the agreement sets out cooperation intended to build Timor-Leste’s institutional capacity through technical training, exchanges of specialists and the sharing of expertise. It also covers policy and legislation development, protection of intellectual property rights and support for their economic use, including bringing products and innovations to market.
