Delegates at a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 29 urged Vietnamese and Chinese businesses to strengthen supply-chain links through closer collaboration in manufacturing, logistics and technology. The discussions were part of the Autumn Economic Forum 2026.

Nguyen Loc Ha, the municipal People’s Committee’s Standing Vice Chairman, put bilateral trade in 2025 at US$256.4 billion. He said Ho Chi Minh City wanted to develop industrial partnerships, strengthen suppliers and broaden technology use and market access so domestic firms could take on higher-value activities. Transport links, ports and smarter, greener logistics were also priorities, particularly around Cai Mep–Thi Vai.

China’s Acting Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Xu Zhou, said Chinese businesses were willing to collaborate with Vietnamese partners in areas including smart manufacturing, infrastructure and financial services. He identified workforce training, quality control, cold-chain storage and multimodal transport as possible fields for cooperation. Le Truong Duy, Director of HCMC C4IR, proposed matching high-tech production with demand and helping businesses develop the skills to adopt and master new technologies.

Dang Thi Minh Phuong, President of the Logistics and Sea Ports Association of Ho Chi Minh City, advocated common standards for transport corridors, data sharing and joint warehouse investment. She said ports serving the city and nearby areas accounted for 65–70% of Vietnam’s container throughput, or 18 million TEUs annually. Cai Mep–Thi Vai could handle ships carrying up to 21,000 TEUs and had direct links to markets in Europe and the US, she added.
