The next round of free trade negotiations between Malaysia and Bangladesh is scheduled for January, following agreement between the two sides. They are targeting the end of 2027 to complete the proposed pact.

Bangladesh’s Commerce Ministry said the initial round had finished in Dhaka following discussions lasting three days. It said the talks had taken the process of drafting the agreement a step further.

Draft chapters were reviewed by working groups representing each country. Their discussions covered goods and services trade, investment and digital trade, alongside customs and rules of origin. The Malaysian team was led by Dr Rashidi Said, a senior official at the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI).

Local media reports cited Bangladesh’s chief negotiator Khadija Nazneen, an additional secretary at the Commerce Ministry, as expecting the agreement to deepen the economic partnership with Malaysia and increase cooperation across technology, investment and industrial sectors.
