Nghe An targets US$6-8 billion in FDI with focus on project quality
The Vietnamese province aims to draw 70% of its foreign investment capital from developed economies and prioritise technology-intensive industries.

Vietnam’s Nghe An province has issued a plan targeting US$6-8 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during 2026-2030, shifting its emphasis towards projects’ quality and added value rather than capital volume. The annual target is US$1.2-1.6 billion.
The plan seeks to attract 70% of FDI capital from developed economies offering advanced technology, financial strength and modern management expertise. Priority industries range from electronics and semiconductors to artificial intelligence, biotechnology, green energy and modern logistics.
Nghe An attracted US$2.49 billion in FDI during the first nine months of 2026, ranking sixth nationally. In 2025, provincial authorities licensed 25 new foreign-invested projects and authorised capital changes for 20 existing projects, involving combined registered investment exceeding US$1 billion.
Administrative changes form part of the investment strategy. A plan approved in late 2025 shortened processing times by about 40% for construction-related procedures overseen by the Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone Management Board.
The province has designated the Southeast Nghe An Economic Zone as its principal growth engine, with plans to turn it into a free economic zone. Its expansion to 104,000 hectares is expected to alleviate industrial land shortages. Authorities are also accelerating land clearance for industrial parks including VSIP Nghe An 3, Hoang Mai II and Tho Loc.
Vo Trong Hai, Chairman of the Nghe An People’s Committee, said the province would pursue further administrative reform and improve governance. He said businesses would receive support through investment exploration, approvals, land clearance, construction, production and expansion. Nghe An’s longer-term goal is to become a manufacturing, services and innovation hub in central Vietnam by 2045.
