MBSS secures coal shipping contract covering up to 30 million tonnes
The five-year agreement with GEL Group could provide average annual revenue of about Rp1.2 trillion, depending on services performed and cargo volumes.

PT Mitrabahtera Segara Sejati Tbk (MBSS) agreed on 26 October 2026 to handle coal shipments for PT Global Energi Lestari (GEL Group) over five years. Signed in Jakarta, the deal provides for 500,000 metric tonnes each month, or 6 million tonnes annually, with a potential 30 million tonnes across the contract period.
CNBC Indonesia reported that the arrangement could generate average yearly revenue of around Rp1.2 trillion for MBSS. Actual revenue will depend on the transport services carried out and cargo volumes. The shipments will serve both Indonesian and export customers.
Loading points include Riau, Jambi and South Sumatra, with delivery destinations determined by GEL Group's operating needs. MBSS will use tugboats and barges as well as Handymax to Supramax vessels, depending on the routes. Floating cranes will support offshore transfers of coal from barges onto larger vessels.
MBSS president director Sugeng Pangraksa said the cargo commitment provided a basis for the company's planned fleet expansion in 2027. He said the additional capacity was intended to meet GEL Group's shipping requirements while improving fleet utilisation. GEL Group director Johnson Hartawan cited MBSS's shipping and transshipment experience, vessel capacity and integrated services among the considerations behind the partnership.
