Bank Indonesia intends for financial services providers to use QRIS payment records to assess creditworthiness, Governor Destry Damayanti said in Jakarta on 26 October 2026. The proposal has been under discussion since last year but has not yet been implemented.

Speaking at the Danantara Technology Innovation Investment Forum 2026, Destry said transaction data could eventually support credit assessments for small merchants. She linked the proposal to efforts to broaden their access to financial services.

Destry put the number of QRIS users at 71 million, compared with 67 million in September 2026. The payment system also has 49.4 million merchants, of which 97 per cent are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, she said.

The Financial Services Authority, or OJK, expressed support for using QRIS records as alternative credit-assessment data in late 2025, including for online lending. In comments carried on the InterActive QRIS website, OJK official Agusman said the approach needed further examination, with safeguards for personal information, checks on data validity and adherence to prudential principles.
