Malaysia’s government has earmarked RM30 million for Media Innovation Fund 2.0, with support covering five categories, government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said. The programme is intended to help domestic media organisations develop their businesses and improve operations.

Speaking at a press conference after a cabinet meeting, Fahmi said the latest edition would retain all four earlier categories and introduce funding for subscriptions covering news services and media content.

The continuing categories cover training for media workers; adopting technology and software; equipment, hardware and facilities that support operations; and research and development focused on content.

Fahmi said the government remained committed to developing media talent, encouraging innovation and digitalisation, and supporting the use of newer technologies. The programme aims to help organisations upgrade equipment and skills while developing content and exploring different production and distribution methods.

The earlier edition provided funding to 72 media companies. Their projects included employee training, operational improvements and work on alternative ways to produce and distribute content.
