Investment approvals for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone reached RM88.83 billion from January 2025 to June 2026, according to a joint statement issued on November 2 by the Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee.

The committee said about 45 per cent of those investments, or about RM40.3 billion, had been implemented, creating 12,796 jobs. The approved projects, which fall under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, represent 28,755 potential employment opportunities in total.

At its first meeting, held in Singapore, the committee reviewed work on investment implementation, transport connections and talent development. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to putting the zone’s institutional, regulatory and operational arrangements in place.

Malaysia’s Economy Minister Akmal Nasir said the countries had agreed to hold a joint investment forum for the zone by the first quarter of 2027. He said its masterplan, initially scheduled for March, would likely be launched by the end of 2026 alongside the annual Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat.

The meeting also reviewed Malaysian Budget 2027 initiatives supporting the zone. These include Nexus Sedenak, an industrial and supply chain hub, infrastructure and transport improvements, strategic investment facilitation and stronger financial services in Forest City.

Established jointly in January 2025, the zone aims to attract global investment and create 20,000 skilled jobs during its first five years. It will cover 3,571 sq km across nine flagship areas, with investment promotion spanning 11 economic sectors.
