Indonesia is coordinating a plan for Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) to become the sole channel for all natural resource exports from 2027, Coordinating Minister of Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia said.

Speaking in Jakarta after the opening of Minerba Convex 2026, Lahadalia said he had coordinated with DSI on the arrangement. He said it would allow shipments to reach destination countries directly rather than passing through other countries. Lahadalia also holds the energy and mineral resources portfolio.

The government began a transition for strategic commodity exports on June 1, 2026, initially covering coal, crude palm oil (CPO) and ferroalloys. Government Regulation Number 24 of 2026 provides the framework, with the DSI mechanism due to be fully implemented no later than January 1, 2027.

The government aims to tighten supervision of exports and their proceeds, support economic growth, contain inflation, stabilise the exchange rate and improve Indonesia’s negotiating position with buyers.

According to the Economic Affairs Coordinating Ministry, DSI’s preliminary analysis covered about 6,500 export notifications involving more than US$14 billion and more than 90 million tons shipped to over 100 countries. After nearly three months of operation, DSI had also developed visibility into transactions and flagged inconsistent data for review.

The ministry and other agencies reviewed the transition phase at the end of August 2026 to determine subsequent steps. At the end of September, Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the transition remained on schedule through the end of December 2026.
