Indonesia’s 2026 current account deficit forecast at 1.6–2.4% of GDP
The second-quarter current account deficit widened to US$12.5 billion, while the balance-of-payments deficit narrowed.

Bank Indonesia expects the country’s current account to record a deficit equivalent to 1.6–2.4% of gross domestic product in 2026, Governor Destry Damayanti said at a press conference on 21 October 2026.
The forecast follows a second-quarter current account deficit of US$12.5 billion, or 3.3% of GDP. That was wider than the US$3.6 billion deficit, equivalent to 1.0% of GDP, recorded in the first quarter.
Indonesia’s balance of payments, meanwhile, registered a smaller deficit in the second quarter. The shortfall stood at US$0.9 billion, compared with US$9.1 billion in the first quarter of 2026.
Destry said Indonesia’s external resilience was expected to remain strong. However, she said the balance-of-payments performance still needed strengthening to improve that resilience, despite the reduction in its quarterly deficit.
