Indonesia plans nickel output restraint under 2027 production plan
Bahlil Lahadalia said production could move higher or lower depending on prices, with greater output possible if prices were favourable.

Indonesia intends to use its 2027 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) to restrain nickel output in an effort to support prices, according to Bahlil Lahadalia, the country's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister.
Speaking in Jakarta after Minerba Convex 2026, Bahlil warned that prices could decline again if production were maintained. He also serves as Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition.
Bahlil put worldwide nickel consumption at 3.5 million tonnes, alongside Indonesian production of 700,000–800,000 tonnes. CNBC Indonesia cited trading economic data showing nickel at Rp15,482 per tonne, a level it described as still low.
The minister said output under the plan could be adjusted in either direction according to prices. He said higher production would be acceptable when prices were favourable, but questioned producing large volumes when prices were low.
