Vietnam's largest miner, Vinacomin, intends to maintain annual coal production at 40 million metric tons through 2030, with domestic power generation accounting for most demand, state media reported on October 29.

Vietnam News Agency reported that the company will develop 18 mining projects in Quang Ninh, a northern province, to sustain production. Vinacomin will also bring in coal imports of 10 million to 20 million tons annually to meet demand.

Coal continues to underpin Vietnam's thermal power generation and energy security goals. Vinacomin said sufficient supplies for thermal plants were central to keeping the power system operating and protecting national energy security.

The miner is one of the companies that will remain wholly state-owned until at least 2030.
