Vietnam urges broader investment and production partnerships with Indonesia
Proposals at a Quang Ninh conference included additional air links, easier cross-border payments and cooperation in semiconductors and clean energy.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thi Hoang Van advocated joint production and stronger supply-chain connections with Indonesia during Meet Indonesia 2026, held in Quang Ninh on October 30. The conference sought to advance bilateral cooperation and connectivity.
The foreign ministry organised the gathering with the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam and Quang Ninh city. Van said it would help put into practice the 2026-2030 action programme for the Vietnam-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including priorities in emerging and strategic sectors.
Van proposed improving infrastructure links, reducing obstacles to market access and making trade and cross-border payments easier. She also urged consideration of additional direct flights and higher frequencies connecting major business and tourism centres.
She said the relationship should move beyond goods exchanges and investment attraction towards more closely integrated production and investment partnerships. Areas she identified for wider cooperation included artificial intelligence, semiconductors, innovation and the green and energy transitions, potentially involving joint research and development centres.
Le Van Anh, vice chairman of the Quang Ninh city People’s Committee, said the locality wanted concrete projects from its cooperation opportunities. Its priorities include manufacturing, high technology, clean energy, ports, logistics and tourism. He pledged simpler administrative procedures and assistance for Indonesian investors under Vietnamese law.
Discussions also covered sustainable tourism and Halal products and services. According to VNA, Indonesia ranked as Vietnam’s second-largest ASEAN trading partner in 2025, with trade worth US$17.2 billion. Bilateral trade amounted to nearly US$13 billion over the first eight months of 2026.
