Indonesia seeks US investment in transport infrastructure
The transport ministry’s priorities include ports, airports, road and rail networks, and integrated urban transport.

Indonesian Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi urged American companies to invest in the country’s transport sector during an October 29 meeting with the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) in Jakarta. He said investment could help modernise infrastructure, improve safety and make logistics more efficient.
Purwagandhi linked the ministry’s priorities to President Prabowo Subianto’s goal of eight per cent economic growth by 2029. Those priorities include upgrading ports, developing airports, extending road and rail networks, and connecting urban transport systems.
He said American expertise in technology, transport operations, financing and workforce development could help address Indonesia’s transport challenges. Discussions also covered logistics, lower-emission transport and urban mobility, with safety described as a requirement for cooperation across aviation, maritime, road and rail services.
For logistics, Purwagandhi pointed to digital tools that could strengthen information sharing and support operators’ decisions. He said cleaner transport and improved urban mobility involved energy efficiency, integrated public transport and technology to cut emissions.
The minister asked participating companies to identify potential areas for cooperation, the problems they wanted to tackle and follow-up steps. He also expressed hope that cooperation would create opportunities for Indonesian professionals and businesses while building their expertise.
