Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd plans to increase its Malaysian motorcycle range from seven models to more than 20 over the coming years, alongside a dealership expansion focused on motorcycles of 250cc and above.

The company is adding a dedicated completely built-up (CBU) business model to its existing completely knocked-down (CKD) operations. It also unveiled the Yamaha YZF-R9 as the first new motorcycle under its BLU network, with further models expected to follow.

BLU Universe is planned to comprise 19 dealerships across Malaysia. The first four are expected to open by the end of 2026, while the others are scheduled to open progressively through the first quarter of 2028. From 1 January 2027, these dealerships will become the official outlets for the company's entire CBU and CKD range of motorcycles of 250cc and above.

Each dealership will include a BLU Care service centre. Support will include motorcycle collection and delivery, washing, polishing and rider training, subject to availability. The wider BLU network also includes BLU Point and the flagship BLU Nexus showroom in Sungai Buloh.

Hong Leong Industries Bhd group managing director Datuk Prof Dr Jim Khor acknowledged Yamaha's late entry into the competitive segment, saying its approach would combine motorcycle sales, after-sales support and customer engagement.

Hong Leong Yamaha said industry volume for motorcycles of 250cc and above grew 73 per cent between 2025 and 2026. The expansion is backed by an agreement involving the company, Yamaha Motor Co Ltd of Japan and DRB-HICOM Auto Solutions Sdn Bhd.
