JCB International and Hanoi Metro signed a memorandum of understanding on October 29 to introduce JCB transit payments on the Vietnamese capital’s urban railway network. The service is scheduled to begin in early 2027.

Under the planned arrangement, passengers with JCB contactless cards or compatible devices would be able to tap at fare gates. This would remove the need for those users to carry cash or buy a separate metro ticket.

The companies will work together on preparations for the launch. Takumi Takahashi, executive vice president of JCB International, said the company hoped the service would make travel more convenient for cardholders and help develop cashless public transport in Vietnam.

JCB International handles international operations for JCB Co., Ltd. JCB reports an acceptance network covering about 72 million merchants worldwide and more than 181 million card members, with cards issued mainly in Asian countries and territories.
