Indonesia’s cross-border QRIS system wins collaboration award
Digital Public Goods Alliance and Co-Develop presented the award in New York, while US concerns over QRIS consultation remain part of the backdrop.

Indonesia’s cross-border QRIS payment system received the collaboration category honour at the 50-in-5 Awards 2026, organised by Digital Public Goods Alliance and Co-Develop. The presentation took place in New York on 21 September 2026.
Co-Develop Chief Investment Officer Lindsey Crumbaugh presented the award to Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta, representing Indonesia. The ceremony formed part of the 50-in-5 Milestone Event during the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Bank Indonesia said the honour recognised Indonesia and its partner countries for developing digital payment connections across borders that are inclusive and interoperable. Its QRIS partnerships cover China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan.
Speaking at KADIN’s national leadership meeting in Jakarta on 29 October 2026, Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti expressed surprise at receiving recognition in the United States after US criticism of QRIS.
The US Trade Representative’s 2025 National Trade Estimate report raised concerns from American payment providers and banks about consultation during Bank Indonesia’s QR-code policymaking. The companies said international stakeholders had not been informed about potential changes or given an opportunity to explain their views, including how the system could work with existing payment infrastructure.
