Indonesia’s rupiah started trading on 30 October 2026 at Rp18,128 per US dollar, down 0.02 per cent, according to Refinitiv data. It had closed at Rp18,125 on 29 October after strengthening in that session.

The US dollar index, which tracks the currency against six major currencies, was also lower. At 09:00 Western Indonesian Time, it stood at 101.731, a decline of 0.30 per cent.

Markets were watching US growth and inflation figures published on 29 October. The US economy expanded at an annualised rate of 3.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2026, compared with 2.2 per cent in the previous quarter and market expectations of 3.2 per cent.

US Personal Consumption Expenditures inflation reached 3.6 per cent year on year in September, up from 3.4 per cent in August. The core measure rose to 3.1 per cent from 3.0 per cent.

Ahead of Bank Indonesia’s November 2026 meeting, Governor Destry Damayanti said benchmark interest-rate decisions would depend on domestic and global economic data rather than automatically follow the Federal Reserve. She spoke after attending Rapimnas Kadin 2026 in Jakarta on 29 October.

Bank Indonesia is also preparing measures to support exchange-rate stability, including hedging-cost incentives, macroprudential policies and Sekuritas Rupiah Bank Indonesia (SRBI).
