Malaysia’s ringgit recorded its 10th consecutive higher opening against the US dollar, with the 8 am quotation at 4.0570/0625 compared with the previous close of 4.0575/0620.

The currency was near a seven-week high. Its earlier opening level of 4.0560 was recorded on Sept 9, 2026.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the US Dollar Index had dropped 0.33 per cent to 101.854 points. That decline came despite US third-quarter growth exceeding expectations and a higher September personal consumption expenditure inflation rate, he said.

Mohd Afzanizam also noted that two-year US Treasury yields declined 10 basis points to 4.60 per cent, while 10-year yields fell eight basis points to 4.94 per cent. He told Bernama that markets appeared to be factoring in a possible Federal Reserve policy shift, and expected the ringgit to retain its positive near-term trend.

The ringgit nevertheless lost ground to several other currencies. Sterling was quoted at 5.4275/4348, versus 5.4009/4069 at Thursday’s close, while the euro reached 4.5365/5427 from 4.5176/5226. The yen quotation moved to 2.5707/5743 from 2.5685/5715.

Regional trading was mixed: the rupiah quotation changed little and the peso was unchanged. The ringgit weakened against both the Singapore dollar and Thai baht.
