Malaysia’s Budget 2027 clears parliamentary policy stage
Committee scrutiny is scheduled for November 2–26, while the government is considering legislation to strengthen oversight of state-owned entities.

Malaysia’s Dewan Rakyat has approved the Supply (Budget) Bill 2027 at the policy stage after two weeks of debate, allowing it to advance to committee scrutiny. A majority of members backed the budget, which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented on October 9.
The committee stage will begin on November 2 and conclude on November 26. The parliamentary session is scheduled to end on December 8, after running for 37 days.
During parliamentary questions, Anwar said the government was considering a Government-Owned Entities Bill to strengthen oversight of government-linked companies and related agencies. The proposal would establish clearer rules covering state-owned entities and their subsidiaries, seeking to prevent financial irregularities such as those involving 1MDB, Felda and Tabung Haji.
Anwar also stressed that politicians must not interfere in project and investment choices made by government-linked companies and investment institutions. He said those decisions must be handled professionally and prudently.
Separately, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said told Parliament that policy recommendations for a Political Financing Bill would go before the Special Select Committee soon. The review would gather further feedback before the proposed legislation is finalised for Cabinet consideration.
