Anwar urges Bursa Malaysia to help local firms expand regionally
The prime minister called for more mid-tier businesses to list and stressed fair treatment of investors in Malaysia’s capital market.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged Bursa Malaysia Bhd to support the growth and listing of more mid-tier Malaysian companies, with the aim of building regional champions. He made the call at the exchange’s 50th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur on October 29, 2026.
Anwar said promising firms were taking too long to expand and that Bursa could help them reach their next stage of development. He said success could generate jobs and give more Malaysians a share in the country’s economic progress.
Anwar, who also serves as finance minister, emphasised trust and fairness, saying businesses raising money from Malaysian investors must treat them honestly. He said geopolitical tensions, technological shifts and the energy transition would shape the market’s operating environment.
He also encouraged Malaysian businesses to pursue higher-value activities in semiconductors, advanced manufacturing and digital technology to strengthen their ability to compete overseas.
Pointing to government efforts on governance, fiscal discipline and investment attractiveness, Anwar said Malaysia registered RM218.5 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026. He said the Madani Economy aimed to expand the economy’s potential while improving living standards.
