Malaysia’s planned RM1.2 billion Sanglang Port development in Perlis will involve Berjaya Construction as its design-and-build contractor, according to parent company Berjaya Property. Bernama reported the company’s disclosure in a stock exchange filing.

The assignment covers engineering and procurement as well as construction and design development. Berjaya Construction is to collaborate with the port’s owner and developer, Sanglang Port Mutiara Perlis, on the infrastructure.

Plans call for a pair of multi-user terminals along a 4km trestle, serving roll-on/roll-off (RORO) traffic and general cargo. Water depths would reach up to 11.9 metres. The development is to advance in stages, with an initial construction cost estimate of RM675 million.

Berjaya Construction sits within Berjaya Property, the property arm of Berjaya Corporation. The conglomerate’s founder, Vincent Tan, said in the filing that strategic infrastructure investment could support long-term economic growth in Malaysia and strengthen regional connections. He also said maritime facilities could open opportunities for industry, investment and trade while benefiting businesses and communities locally.
