PTBA studies possible share buyback as first-half profit rises
The Indonesian coal company reported net profit of Rp2.65 trillion for the first half of 2026, up 218% year on year.

PT Bukit Asam (Persero) Tbk (PTBA) is assessing a possible share buyback among several corporate options aimed at supporting its value and shareholder interests, according to a written statement dated 23 October 2026.
Eko Prayitno, PTBA's Corporate Secretary Division Head, said management was examining the options with regard to prudent decision-making, corporate governance and applicable regulations. He said the company was monitoring macroeconomic conditions, energy industry trends and capital market developments.
PTBA reported first-half 2026 revenue of Rp22.03 trillion, an increase of 8% year on year. Net profit rose 218% to Rp2.65 trillion. The company attributed the performance to an operational recovery in the second quarter, stronger export sales and an improvement in average coal selling prices.
Coal production reached 19.45 million tonnes, while sales totalled 21.10 million tonnes. Export sales amounted to 10.33 million tonnes, about 5% higher than in the corresponding period a year earlier. Domestic sales were 10.77 million tonnes, accounting for around 51% of first-half sales.
Management said its assessment would take account of liquidity, working capital requirements and long-term business development plans. Operational performance, cost efficiency and the company's transformation programme remained priorities.
Eko said that if management decided to proceed with a buyback or another strategic corporate action, PTBA would disclose the decision in line with Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) requirements.
