Phu Quoc APEC centre reaches 98 per cent structural completion
Sun Group has set January 30, 2027 for trial operations at the convention centre, with completion targeted for late February.

Structural construction of the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island was 98 per cent complete on October 23, developer Sun Group said. The company expects the exterior to be ready by the end of 2026.
Sun Group said installation of the steel framework and roof sheeting had finished. Crews are now concentrating on the roofing, facade work and enclosing the building.
Tran Minh Son, standing vice-chairman of Sun Group’s board of directors, set out a timetable that puts trial operations on January 30, 2027, followed by targeted completion in late February. An adjoining multipurpose venue with more than 4,000 seats is expected to be finished by April 30; completion of 17 hotels serving APEC 2027 is planned for September.
The centre includes a main hall measuring 11,050 square metres. Nicolas Medrano, SOM’s design director for Asia-Pacific operations, said the development brings together conference spaces, performing arts venues and dining facilities.
For APEC, the complex will have designated security areas, rooms for bilateral discussions, leaders’ lounges and separate entry routes. It can later be adapted to host exhibitions, corporate meetings, cultural performances and community activities.
Phu Quoc, in An Giang Province, will host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November 2027, receiving leaders and delegates representing 21 member economies. Vietnam previously hosted APEC in Hanoi in 2006 and Da Nang in 2017.
