Indonesia’s IHSG rebounds to close first session 1.7% higher
Turnover reached Rp8,958.87 billion, while MSCI’s possible reclassification of Indonesia remained under consultation.

Indonesia’s IHSG recovered from a fall of 2% to end the opening trading session on 22 October 2026 at 5,419.00. The benchmark added 90.64 points, a gain of 1.7%, according to CNBC Indonesia.
The index started at 5,247 and touched a session low of 5,185.53 before reversing direction. It crossed 5,300 before 09:30 Western Indonesian Time and was near 5,400 at 10:00. Following a modest retreat shortly before 11:00, it climbed again, reaching a session peak of 5,422.59. Trading amounted to 214.14 million lots.
Among the developments market participants were expected to watch during trading were Bank Indonesia’s decision to keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged and new policies intended to encourage bank lending. Rising British inflation and a jump in French government bond yields were also identified as factors to watch.
President Prabowo Subianto’s response to MSCI was another focus. Speaking on 21 October, he described the index provider’s possible reclassification of Indonesia from Emerging Market to Standalone Market as pressure aimed at intimidating Indonesian market participants.
MSCI is consulting market participants on the possible change until April 2027 and is scheduled to announce its final decision by 30 June 2027. Investors were also expected to continue following Indonesian authorities’ capital-market reforms, particularly measures concerning transparency of share ownership and enforcement of trading rules.
