CIMB Group Holdings Berhad denied on 22 October 2026 that it planned to take PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk. private, responding to foreign media reports about a possible withdrawal of the Indonesian bank from the stock exchange.

The Malaysian group’s management said it had neither made a decision nor submitted a formal proposal for a potential privatisation. It described CIMB Niaga as integral to its regional operations and reaffirmed its commitment to operating in Indonesia.

Management also said the group would meet applicable regulatory requirements, including the minimum level of shares held by the public, in a timely and structured manner.

The denial followed a Reuters report citing a CIMB Investment Bank Bhd research note. The note said the parent was stepping up its exploration of a possible delisting and planned consultations with regulators. It attributed that approach to CIMB’s view that CIMB Niaga shares were undervalued.

According to that account, options under consideration to meet public shareholding requirements included a placement with strategic investors at an acceptable valuation, a re-IPO and privatisation. The note characterised privatisation as the more strategic and credible option, while preserving dividend payments to the parent remained a key consideration.

CIMB Niaga shares, traded under the ticker BNGA, rose 11.29 per cent to 1,730 during the second trading session on 21 October 2026, according to Stockbit.
