Carlsberg outlines US$65 million plan for Phu Bai Brewery
The proposed investment is part of development plans for Hue and Danang covering 2026-2031, presented during To Lam’s visit to Denmark.

Carlsberg plans to invest about US$65 million in modernising its Phu Bai Brewery in Hue. The brewer presented its intentions to local government leaders during Vietnamese leader To Lam’s October 19-21 state visit to Denmark.
Letters of intent delivered to the People’s Committee chairmen of Hue and Danang set out proposed investment and development for 2026-2031. The Hue programme would include production upgrades, greater use of digital systems, stronger supply chains and improvements in product quality and food safety.
Phu Bai underwent an expansion costing nearly US$90 million that was inaugurated in August 2025. It raised annual brewing capacity by more than 50%, leaving the site as Carlsberg’s largest beer production facility in Asia. The proposed next phase would emphasise advanced technology, efficiency, resource conservation and renewable energy.
Carlsberg’s plans for Danang include expanding commercial activity, developing local capabilities and upgrading operations and digital systems. The company also intends to improve logistics and work with local partners on environmental protection and community initiatives.
Speaking at a CEO roundtable attended by Lam, Carlsberg chief executive Jacob Aarup-Andersen described Vietnam as a key market for growth and expressed confidence in its long-term potential. Carlsberg has been operating in Vietnam for more than three decades.
Separately, Carlsberg recently agreed with Sapporo Breweries to form a strategic joint venture spanning six markets across Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, with Vietnam among them.
