Indonesia’s rupiah ended trading on 4 November 2026 at Rp18,155 per US dollar, down 0.11 per cent from the previous close, according to Refinitiv data. The decline reversed a gain recorded a day earlier.

The currency had closed at Rp18,135 per US dollar on 3 November. During the latest session, it traded between Rp18,100 and Rp18,180 per US dollar.

The rupiah weakened even as the US dollar index fell. At 15:00 Western Indonesia Time, the index, which tracks the dollar against six major currencies, was down 0.45 per cent at 101.405.

Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor Destry Damayanti said the rupiah had strengthened to around Rp17,800 per US dollar in late September 2026, before coming under renewed pressure in October that continued into early November.

Speaking at a Financial System Stability Committee press conference on 3 November, Destry attributed the weakness to escalating conflict in the Middle East, tighter US monetary policy and global investor sentiment towards emerging-market assets.

Investors were also awaiting September 2026 US trade figures, scheduled for 20:30 Western Indonesia Time on 4 November. The US trade deficit widened to US$105.6 billion in August from US$92.8 billion in July, its largest since March 2025. Imports rose by US$17.2 billion to a record US$420.8 billion, while exports increased by US$4.5 billion to US$315.2 billion.
