Perak considered for Johor-Singapore economic zone master plan launch
Anwar Ibrahim and Lawrence Wong have agreed to witness the launch, with the venue still being finalised, Malaysia’s economy minister said.

Malaysia is weighing Perak as the location to launch the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) master plan, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said on October 31. The ceremony could be held alongside the two countries’ Annual Leaders’ Retreat, scheduled for December 4 in the state.
Akmal Nasrullah said Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong had both agreed to witness the launch. However, the location remained undecided, with the retreat expected to take place in Ipoh and alternative arrangements still under consideration.
Speaking after a Deepavali celebration in Larkin, Johor Bahru, the minister also outlined preparations for a bilateral meeting to be hosted by Singapore. It will be the first meeting under the Johor-Singapore Cooperation Ministerial Committee framework, he said.
Akmal Nasrullah is due to head Malaysia’s delegation alongside Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi. National Development Minister Chee Hong Tat will lead Singapore’s delegation.
The minister said Malaysia would use the meeting to review implementation of the JS-SEZ initiative and discuss its next steps. Work was also continuing on the retreat’s programme and logistics.
