JCB targets early 2027 for contactless fares on Hanoi Metro
A memorandum of understanding sets out plans for passengers to pay at fare gates using JCB contactless cards or compatible devices.

JCB International aims to introduce its JCB transit payment service on Hanoi Metro in early 2027 after signing a memorandum of understanding with the railway operator. The planned service would enable passengers to pay fares directly with contactless cards or compatible devices.
JCB cardholders would be able to pass through metro gates without buying a separate ticket or using cash. The company said visitors from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and other markets would benefit from being able to pay with a method they already use.
JCB said the partnership supports its expansion into public transport payments and the wider adoption of cashless transactions in Vietnam. Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International, said the company hoped the service would make travel more convenient for cardholders.
The card scheme has also introduced contactless payments on Taipei Metro, while its contactless cards are accepted by Metro de Madrid and LA Metro. Hanoi Metro's Line 2A, the first metro line in Vietnam, opened in November 2021.
