Contactless fare payments using JCB are scheduled to become available on Hanoi’s urban railway network in early 2027, according to JCB International. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company to introduce the service.

The planned system would allow JCB cardholders to enter through metro fare gates by tapping a contactless card or compatible device. JCB expects international visitors, including travellers from Japan, Korea and Taiwan, to benefit by being able to use JCB rather than purchasing a separate transit ticket or carrying cash.

Takumi Takahashi, executive vice president of JCB International, said the partnership aimed to make journeys more convenient for cardholders and help develop cashless public transport in Vietnam. The partners will carry out further preparations ahead of the targeted launch.

JCB International manages overseas operations for JCB Co., Ltd. The payment group says its worldwide acceptance network covers about 72 million merchants.
