Indonesia’s manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index rose to 54 in October 2026, its highest level since March 2024, according to Industry Minister Muhammad Sarmuji, citing Standard & Poor’s figures.

At the Sago Business Forum 2026 in Jakarta, Sarmuji said the figures contradicted suggestions that Indonesian industry was slowing. The index was above 50, the dividing line between expanding and contracting activity.

The minister also cited an Industrial Confidence Index reading of 53.77, which he said indicated broad business optimism about industrial growth. New orders grew at their quickest pace in five years, while new export orders registered their strongest increase since tracking began.

Sarmuji said industrial growth had exceeded growth in the overall economy and was the sector’s strongest performance in more than a decade. Food and beverage output grew by 6.77 per cent, up 0.8 percentage points from the corresponding period a year earlier.

Investment realised in food and beverages totalled Rp47.74 trillion during the first half of 2026. Domestic investment accounted for 59 per cent of that amount.
