Indonesia prepares bank account programme for 25 million low-income residents
The programme has a planned budget of Rp1.28 trillion, with an initial deposit of Rp50,000 for each account.

Indonesia is preparing to provide bank accounts for 25 million residents in its lowest-income group, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on 22 October 2026. The one-person, one-account programme is being prepared with a budget of Rp1.28 trillion.
Eligibility will cover people older than 17 in the bottom welfare decile, or the lowest 10 per cent. Airlangga said beneficiaries would be identified using the Data Tunggal Sosial dan Ekonomi Nasional (DTSEN). Each account is to receive an initial deposit of Rp50,000.
BRI and BSI will take part in implementing the programme. Speaking at the 2026 national coordination meeting of regional financial access acceleration teams at JIEXPO Convention Centre, Airlangga outlined an aim to raise financial inclusion from 93 per cent to 99 per cent.
He said the initiative was intended to reach people without adequate access to formal financial services. The government also wants the accounts to improve the effectiveness of assistance distribution, rather than limiting the programme to opening accounts.
