Kazakhstan is preparing more than 20 agreements with Indonesia ahead of President Prabowo Subianto’s planned state visit in 2027, according to its ambassador to Indonesia, Serzhan Abdykarimov. The package spans investment, trade, tourism, digitalisation and education, among other areas.

Speaking at a Jakarta gathering of the Kazakhstan-Indonesia Friendship Society, Abdykarimov said Kazakhstan expected the two countries’ chambers of commerce to sign a memorandum of understanding during the visit. The proposed agreement involving the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) would create a bilateral business council, he said.

Abdykarimov put trade between the countries at around US$250 million and said there was scope for expansion. He expected Indonesia’s free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Kazakhstan is a member, to strengthen commercial ties.

Preparations for Prabowo’s trip were a key purpose of Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta’s June visit to Kazakhstan, the ambassador said. Matta also explored opportunities for cooperation and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

If it proceeds, the state visit would be Prabowo’s fourth meeting with Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev since 2026. Their previous encounters were at international events in Davos, Washington and New Delhi.
