A Singapore Exchange filing recorded an open-market purchase of 100,000 Wilmar International shares by George Yeo on Nov 4 at S$2.97 apiece. The transaction took the former minister’s holding above one million shares.

Yeo is an independent director of the agri-business group, whose share price has dropped more than 14 per cent over the past month. Wilmar holds Indonesian oil palm concessions.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) sent notices on Oct 23 to 10 companies registered in Singapore, Wilmar among them, as cross-border haze worsened. It sought details about corporate connections, concessions in Indonesia and efforts to prevent and combat fires.

On Nov 2, Wilmar said it had accepted Control Risks Group as the NEA-appointed assessor examining possible links between the group and Indonesian fires contributing to haze in Singapore and Malaysia. Dentons Rodyk & Davidson would advise the assessor on legal matters.

Wilmar said it would bear the cost of engaging both firms and give them access to records, staff and locations relevant to its business, corporate ties and supply chains. It separately reported submitting an initial batch of material requested by NEA under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act.

Yeo has served on Wilmar’s board since April 2024 and previously held executive positions at Kerry group companies.
