Malaysia’s Budget 2027 sets out RM8 billion for vocational training
Other youth-focused measures include a programme aiming for 30,000 quality jobs and a minimum wage increase scheduled for June 2027.

An RM8 billion vocational training allocation is among Malaysia’s Budget 2027 measures intended to improve young people’s employment prospects, Perdana Fellows Alumni Association secretary-general Amir Izzwan Abu Hasan said.
Appearing on Bernama TV’s Darah Muda programme, he highlighted funding for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The provisions also offer 16,000 courses through Coursera and 100,000 subscriptions providing free access to artificial intelligence technology, which he said would help align skills with industry needs.
Amir Izzwan said the MADANI Talent Programme targets the creation of 30,000 high-quality jobs by 2027, combining progressive wages with social protection and career development. He also noted that the minimum wage is scheduled to rise to RM2,000 in June 2027.
On financial assistance, he cited more flexible repayment deferments for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers and discounts for those making consistent repayments. He also highlighted Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance and an expanded support package worth RM160 million for gig workers.
Separately, Amir Izzwan proposed considering lower-cost rental housing close to public transport and extending the My50 travel pass as further ways to reduce urban youths’ daily expenses.
