Indonesia’s Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project is 99 per cent complete, Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia said following an inspection on 22 October. He said some technical improvements remained unfinished at the East Kalimantan facility.

In a statement dated 23 October 2026, Bahlil said the visit with local government and Pertamina representatives assessed refinery readiness and fuel stocks in Kalimantan. Officials also examined technical obstacles and sought solutions to maintain operations and energy distribution to the public.

Taufik Aditiyawarman, deputy president director I of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, said government coordination was helping preparations for the refinery. He said the joint work supported the remaining technical improvements and readiness of supporting infrastructure, with the aim of enabling optimal operations.

Separately, PT Pertamina (Persero) vice president for corporate communication Muhammad Baron said the company was continuing preparations to support Indonesia’s energy security, while prioritising workplace safety. He described cooperation with the government and other stakeholders as important to the refinery’s operations.
