Asahi Life completes takeover of Vietnam’s MVI Life
Vietnamese authorities approved a licence amendment on October 27, 2026, recognising Asahi Life as the insurer’s sole investor.

Japan’s Asahi Mutual Life Insurance Company said it has completed the acquisition process for Vietnam’s MVI Life Co. Ltd., making the insurer a wholly owned subsidiary. The company paid approximately US$170 million to the previous parent, The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company.
In an October 28 statement, Asahi Life said regulators in Japan and Vietnam had granted the necessary approvals. Vietnamese financial authorities authorised a change to MVI Life’s insurance licence on October 27, 2026, to recognise the new ownership. Operations have begun under that structure.
The insurer has also signed a strategic partnership agreement with LivWell to support its planned expansion. Asahi Life said the partnership would combine its experience developing medical and cancer insurance in Japan with LivWell’s digital technology, with the aim of offering products and services tailored to Vietnam.
LivWell is a Singapore-based insurtech holding company established in 2019. It expanded into Vietnam in 2020 and provides health-focused insurance services and corporate wellness platforms. Its activities include a healthcare mobile application and insurance distribution, with Vietnam its main strategic market.
