Malaysian entrepreneur Joel Neoh has joined Roblox to oversee its operations across Southeast Asia and Oceania as managing director. He started in October, with the gaming and creation platform seeking to build its presence across both regions.

His remit covers regional strategy and partnerships, helping developers and studios expand their businesses, and adapting global business and product priorities to local needs. He will also work to increase recognition of Roblox among parents and players.

Roblox vice president of international Zhen Fang said Neoh's regional business experience and technology-sector connections equipped him to lead further expansion. The company sees long-term opportunities in the regions, citing their young populations and developing digital ecosystems.

Neoh said he wanted to help more people create digital experiences rather than only consume content. He added that protecting young users and collaborating with parents, regulators and communities would remain priorities as Roblox grows.

Neoh founded GroupsMore, which merged with Groupon, and later held a leadership position at Groupon Asia Pacific. He also founded payments platform Fave, which reached more than 10 million users before Pine Labs acquired it in 2021.

Before Roblox, he was managing director at Prenetics, leading its consumer health businesses. He has backed more than 50 Asian start-ups and is a founding partner of Southeast Asian early-stage venture capital platform First Move.
