Tokenised money was being used or tested by 88 per cent of business leaders surveyed by DBS, according to findings published on 28 October. The bank linked its growing corporate use to efforts to improve liquidity and reach more markets.

The research covered 422 leaders across 11 markets whose companies generated annual revenue above US$500 million. Responses were collected from mid-June to mid-July 2026.

Stablecoins led the instruments covered by the survey: 63 per cent of respondents used them. Tokenised deposits registered usage of 53 per cent, while the figure for tokenised money market funds was 52 per cent.

According to DBS, most respondents expected improvements in traceability and auditability within two years. Lim Soon Chong, the bank’s group head of global transaction services, said stablecoins presented compliance difficulties involving anti-money laundering requirements and corporate applications. He said broader adoption would depend largely on users, intermediaries and regulatory developments.

The survey also found that more than three-quarters of respondents had changed their operations and entered additional markets amid volatile conditions and fragmented trade. South-east Asia was among the leading destinations for 65 per cent, compared with 50 per cent for Australia and New Zealand and 45 per cent for India.

Meanwhile, 78 per cent had increased their exposure to multiple currencies to lessen reliance on traditional settlement currencies and support additional trading corridors. DBS said renminbi acceptance for trade settlement was rising, with greater adoption in markets including Singapore and Indonesia.
