Online travel platform Agoda is considering further cooperation with financial technology company Adyen, exploring issuing services and payouts for selected markets as it seeks broader payment capabilities.

The potential expansion follows a relationship dating to 2015, when Agoda was pursuing a mobile-first approach in Asia. Adyen currently handles payment acquiring for Agoda in several regions, covering different currencies and local ways to pay.

Their work has targeted higher authorisation rates, lower transaction costs and a simpler checkout. Measures have included adding local payment options, making authentication easier for legitimate bookings and adjusting how payments are routed to improve reliability.

Agoda chief financial officer Oliver Webster said the relationship had developed as the company expanded internationally, with reliable payments and customer experience remaining priorities.

Adyen Malaysia country manager Soon Yean Lee said the collaboration addressed routing, authorisation and settlement. He said improvements in those areas could have a significant effect because of the volume of Agoda's transactions.
