Bali considered as Indonesia speeds up family office plans
Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said investors he had met largely preferred Bali, but continued to question legal certainty in Indonesia.

Indonesia is stepping up work to establish a family office in an International Financial Center, potentially in Bali in the next few months, according to National Economic Council chairman Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.
Speaking in Jakarta on 27 October 2026, Luhut said the president had instructed officials to advance the proposal. Bali was a possible location, he said, although the choice would depend on the president’s direction.
Luhut said most investors he had spoken with favoured having a family office in Bali. They nevertheless continued to question Indonesia’s legal certainty, which he said was also crucial for the proposed family office.
He described government efforts to revise the definitions of state losses and corruption as part of a push to give global investors greater legal certainty. Without swift progress, he warned, investors could turn to other destinations.
Luhut said prolonged conflict in the Gulf had prompted many global investors based in the Middle East to plan departures and look for safer places to hold their money. He cited Singapore as an alternative destination, saying it had received US$30 billion in investor funds during one quarter of 2026.
