Indonesia plans cross-border QRIS trials with Timor-Leste and Hong Kong
Bank Indonesia says the sandbox phase will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, ahead of any further expansion.

Bank Indonesia plans to test cross-border payments using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) with Timor-Leste and Hong Kong from the fourth quarter of 2026, Governor Destry Damayanti said.
Speaking at the presentation of the central bank’s October meeting results on 21 October 2026, Destry said the planned sandbox trials formed part of payment-system digitalisation under the Indonesia Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2030.
The sandbox phase will allow Bank Indonesia to develop and test how the arrangements work before extending them further. The initiative is intended to support economic growth and broaden digital economic and financial activity, including payments across borders.
Bank Indonesia expects the proposed links to make payments easier for individuals and businesses involved in transactions between Indonesia and the two partner markets.
