Ca Na power project advances towards feasibility approval
The US$2.29 billion development still requires an approved environmental assessment before it can receive investment and construction clearance.

Vietnam’s 1,500 MW Ca Na gas-fired power development has passed a review allowing its feasibility study to proceed for approval. Khanh Hoa’s Department of Industry and Trade announced the finding in a notice dated November 2, while retaining requirements for environmental clearance and investor responsibility.
The department said the Trung Nam - Sideros River consortium must check the investment cost and evaluate the project’s financial viability and economic efficiency. The consortium is responsible for arranging US$2.29 billion in financing and maintaining gas supplies throughout 50 years of operation.
Investment and construction approval remain conditional on the preparation and regulatory approval of an environmental impact assessment. The department said its feasibility assessment did not take over the investor’s obligations.
The planned development occupies 265.7 hectares in Ca Na commune, with 33.4 ha allocated to the generating plant and technical corridor. Supporting infrastructure includes facilities to regasify 1-1.2 million tonnes annually, a pipeline, an import port and an eastern breakwater measuring 2,400 m.
After winning the project tender in January, the consortium signed an investment and business contract with Khanh Hoa People’s Committee in April. The schedule calls for construction to finish and operations to start before December 31, 2030. The department said the plant would supply Vietnam’s central power network and electricity load centres in the Southern Key Economic Region.
