Thailand’s central bank left its benchmark interest rate at 1.00% on 28 October, marking its fourth consecutive meeting without a change. The Monetary Policy Committee unanimously backed keeping the one-day repurchase rate at that level.

The outcome matched the expectations of all 26 economists surveyed by Reuters. Most financial experts forecast that the Bank of Thailand will leave the rate unchanged through the end of 2027.

Between October 2024 and February 2026, the bank lowered rates six times, delivering cuts totalling 150 basis points. Those reductions sought to support an economy facing weak domestic demand and high household debt.

Governor Vitai Ratanakorn said on 12 October that he was confident Thailand would achieve 2.3% growth in 2026, supported by strong exports and a surge in foreign direct investment.

The International Monetary Fund has raised its forecast for Thailand’s 2026 gross domestic product growth to 2.1% from 1.9%. It also projects growth of 2.1% for 2027.
